Weekday Weekend Roundup

- There've been a few close games in the NCAA tournament so far. Friday night's two overtime games were both thrillers and Cleveland St gave us a slim hope of a Cinderella in the dance. However, as we enter the sweet sixteen there's no real surprises in the field. All the regions have merely top seeds remaining, except for a major conference 5 and 12. No people's champion is left for America to rally around. No bracket busting upsets have been too far off the radar.

It looks like the tournament committee put together the right teams in the right seeds. Which brings up the question, do they determine their success on how the top seeds fare? Are their brackets all filled out the same way? That's got to be the most boring work pool in the country.

- Liverpool is destroying opponents lately. After the Middlesborough loss they've dismantled Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Aston Villa by multiple goals. They may be the only team standing between Man U and the quintuple. Speaking of the quintuple, isn't it awesome that a team could even compete for 5 trophies in one year? Why can't we try that in American sports? Maybe then the Cubs would have a chance to win something.

- Hopefully Chris Perez's arm isn't in too bad of shape. Not just because I spent a fantasy draft pick on him, but because the Cardinals don't need any more instability in their pitching. They already chose to go into this season without an experienced closer, so losing their inexperienced closer would just seem inconvenient.

- Speaking of the Cardinals. Sony's latest installment of it's baseball franchise, MLB The Show '09, has awful things to say about the Cardinals. After the first roster update the Cards have the 30th ranked team in the game.. That is of course out of 30 teams. Obviously there are few believers in the Redbirds this season but ranking them last seems harsh. This is not the Royals or Pirates. This is a team with the 2-time MVP winning best player in baseball & a former Cy Young winner, both of whom are three years removed from a World Series title. A franchise with a 90 Million dollar payroll, one of the top 5 prospects in the majors, and an outfield with 4 starters and only three positions. 30th is a little harsh, they're not even the worst team in the division.

All right that's it. Be back with a links article tomorrow and then possibly some more junk n' stuff.
